Week 44 - The one tool you need

This week was full of wake up calls. I’ve been so focused on Nacho (my puppy for those of you who are new to my newsletter) and definitely consciously gave myself space to let a few things go. One of those things that I unconsciously pushed to the side was gratitude journaling.

This has been a practice of mine ever since a dear friend, Evan Rogerson, a rep of mine on the first team I ever managed, gifted me the 5 Minute Journal. He already knows this but this gift has changed my life.

That day was back in 2016, so for the past 6 years gratitude journaling has been a huge part of my life but more importantly my outlook, perspective and joy.

6 years has given me A LOT of data so I can confidently say this:

When I am consistently taking 5 minutes to gratitude journal in the morning my life is better. Period. Full stop.

When I don’t, allllll my judgey-ness comes flooding to the surface and life gets shittier. For real.

And so I hadn’t been journaling recently. Since I’ve come back from Costa Rica really. Nacho, the move, adjusting. Just stuff. And there were some dark patches in there and let me tell ya, it’s really hard to run a business about helping people get out of their own way to have the life they really desire when you’re totally getting in your own way from the life you desire! The irony!!

So I’d been feeling kinda stuck and stagnant for the past 3 weeks and 2 things happened this week that knocked me out of it:

  1. My awesome friend Molly (yes the dating coach) and I decided to gather all our fave coach friends and host a “Hot Seat”. What that is is one person is in the hot seat at a time, they bring a topic of their choice and the rest of us put all our attention on that person and ask them questions to help reveal what’s trying to be revealed within them. So I was in the hot seat this week. And it was vulnerable to put my stuff on display in front of people I admire but I did it. And it was also really vulnerable to get their feedback of “you already know what you need to do…just start doing!” Dammit…this is what I always tell people to do and here I am not doing it! Just go DO! Stop talking and worrying and go DO. Get evidence and data that can help you move forward instead of sitting paralyzed by thoughts. Gaaaah!

  2. One of my new clients showed up to session this week BEAMING. And I asked what's up and he went on to tell me how impactful gratitude journaling has been for him over the past month. That he was so stuck and cynical about the future and now all he can see is hope and joy for all he has and will create for himself. He told me he wakes up in the middle of the night with more things he's grateful for and he’ll grab his journal to write them down! This floored me. I was so happy he was seeing the results that I know happen from this practice. And it also slapped me in the face that I’d forgotten just how powerful gratitude truly is.

So by Wednesday I picked up the journal again and also took the ‘just go do it!” advice and took some steps towards a project I’ve been really wanting to start but just haven’t.

Well by Friday I had almost 10 leads, 3 podcast requests and countless clients that are so excited about this new offering I’m creating.

In 2 days!! That is the power of gratitude my friends. When you fill your heart and mind with gratitude, the world starts showing up for you differently. For the past couple weeks it has felt like crickets on LinkedIn and email. And then with just a bit of effort fuelled by gratitude and BOOM the universe delivers her abundance.

So for the love of god please start this practice TODAY! You don’t have to buy the actual journal but you can OR I suggest just grab any notebook you have and here is the format.

Write down:

In the morning:

  • 3 things you’re grateful for today

  • 3 things that will make the day great (that are in your control, ie NOT I hope it’s sunny today)

  • An Affirmation (this is an ‘I am…” statement. One of my go to’s is “I am already enough”. Take it, you can have that one 💜)

In the evening:

  • 3 amazing things that happened today

  • How could I have made today better

That’s it! 2.5 min in the morning and 2.5 min at night. 5 minutes. That’s like 0.003% of your day. YOU HAVE THE TIME.

I promise you the way you feel about your life will change.

Please let me know if you do start this and what impact it has. I would honestly LOVE to hear. It’s truly my fave fave fave tool ever.

Have an abundant week y’all!
